WHY WE CURATED IT: An exquisite examplar of AP from a pivotal chapter in both its own history and that of the entire industry; a crossroad era when the industry was facing the overwhelming threat of quartz. Avant-garde sculptural design, executed with traditional watchmaking craft really mark AP’s pioneering and transformative moves pre-dating its iconic Royal Oak answer to an existential crisis. AP led the way and was heavily followed. Today, watches like this are highly collectible as beautiful time capsules that showcase a lost period of fine craft in dials, cases, bracelets and movements. This particular example even exhibits some very charming dial patina that vintage aficionados will appreciate as a reminder that something this relevant today comes from a time long past. Incredible value when APs seem to be seen as just Royal Oaks and complications currently.
CONDITION: 9/10, with virtually no signs of case and bracelet wear, nor any signs of refinishing. Crystal and hands clean. Dial has some small filigree patina, a lot less than common for blue pigment of this age, and both charming and comforting as evidence of an original Swiss-only dial. Clear and deep engraving on the caseback. Bracelet immaculate. Movement has undergone a light clean-and-lube and is in superb health, strong power reserve and amplitude, very low beat error and accurate to ±25 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
