Grand Seiko “No-Date 45GS” Hi-Beat w/ Many Extras Ref. 4520-8000 (1968)

INTRO:
Collector-grade piece! Much has been said about early GS, their quest to visually differentiate from classic Swiss styling and beat the Swiss in chronometry trials (which they did spectacularly, earning a ban from competing again). Designer Taro Tanaka’s “Grammar of Design” (the design principles on full display here) formed the basis of a uniquely Japanese aesthetic, paving the way for all Grand Seikos to come. This is my fav G.O.D. case, in a lovely 36mm and one of the thinnest GS ever. Add to that GS’s first high-beat manual movement, a calibre so beautiful, adjustable and reliable it became the platform for the legendary GS VFAs. This no-date variant offers perfect symmetry and restraint to let the Zaratsu-polished, black-inlaid indices pop. The result is a beautifully unique, collectible, and high-performance vintage GS that feels more metal origami than a watch. With many extras (see below) to serve its new collector well into the future. Don’t miss this!

CONDITION:
9.5/10 with some hairlines, appears unrefinished and super-sharp. Clean hands, indices and dial (no reprinting as is common for this ref). Crystal NOS (new old stock) original. Equipped with a Lapinist display caseback. Original caseback included with clear engravings and intact gold medallion. Original signed crown. Movement stellar with to-spec power reserve, low to negligible beat error, strong amplitude and accuracy averaging ±5 sec/day from 6 timegrapher positions.
