King Seiko Twin Quartz “Pinstripe Dial” w/ Box and Papers 9443-7000SGP (c. 1982)

INTRO:
Rare collector-grade find in astounding condition with box and papers! In the 50s, Seiko split operations into the Daini and Suwa factories to spur internal competition and accelerate R&D vs the Swiss. By the 60s, Daini focused on mid-range King Seiko, whilst Suwa was high-end (Grand Seiko). In the 70s, Seiko marked their quartz domination by branding their quartz models Grand Quartz and King Quartz for a short spell. This watch is one of the last original KS before KS was axed in the 80s and only revived in 2021 to mixed reception. But there’s nothing like true vintage, especially with this gorgeous, spectacularly preserved specimen of the brand’s heyday. This was no cheap, vanilla quartz piece but the cutting-edge of quartz advancement using twin quartz crystals instead of one for the highest accuracy back in the day. We love the thinness (vs GS equivalents), the handsome pinstriped dial, English + Kanji day wheel, hooded lugs for that integrated bracelet aesthetic (with flexibility for regular straps), the complex case facets and bevels, and stunning light-play from the brushed free-adjustment bracelet. Tellingly, the caseback reveals this was from Suwa where Grand Seikos are made. Don’t sleep on this never-again rarity!

CONDITION:
9.9/10 near-NOS super condition. Minimal light hairlines under a loupe but zero plating wear-down, no nicks/dents/scuffs, 100% pristine dial/hands/indices/appliqués/crystal. Clear engravings on the caseback (stickered). Movement healthy and quartz-accurate.
