Universal Geneve “Batwing” Ref. 842608 (Circa 1970s)
Universal Geneve “Batwing” Ref. 842608 (Circa 1970s)
WHY WE CURATED IT:
We rate this a conservative 8/10 in the interest of full condition disclosure, but this is truly a rare wabi-sabi find for vintage lovers who appreciate untouched, honest condition. We adore the unusual horizontal oval dial, batwing case/lugs, faceting of the case sides, bezel-less design and the compressed/elongated printed romans at 12, 3, 6, 9 with similarly shortened/lengthened applied indices elsewhere. Beyond the hyped Tricompax and Polerouter models, unique UG references with superb value like this emerge. A genuine steal at this price!
CONDITION:
8/10 with visible signs of use, although it appears unpolished with crisp edges/transitions
between surfaces. The caseback reference/serial numbers remain deep and sharp. Crystal and dial have the slightest traces of wear/age visible only under close inspection from certain angles. Small stains on the inside of the case seen through the crystal at 10 o’clock and 1 o’clock. Strap is new, and the pin buckle has light wear. Testing revealed very good power reserve, good movement health and accurate to +/-30 secs/day in dial up position.
