WHY WE CURATED IT:
The Cartier Colisée is a lesser-hyped Must de Cartier. The Must line is Cartier’s initiative to democratise luxury with more affordable watches in 20-micron gold-plated 925 sterling silver (“Vermeil”), cutting back on the use of gold, but still very much full precious metal. The design is distinct from, and as distinctive as Tanks, with circular cases (inspired by Roman colosseums), T-bar lugs and the unmistakable cabochon-ed crowns. Very timeless, especially in this particular variant with a champagne sunburst dial, double stick indices in the cardinal positions and blued sword hands. Paired with a (used) Cartier strap and original Cartier folding deployant buckle. Fantastic value that belies a less common, but very classical and sculptural Cartier!
CONDITION:
8.5/10 with hairlines consistent with careful use over 40 years. Some slight plating wear-down on the tips of the T-bar lugs. Beautiful rainbow patina on the case, which can be removed upon request but we would recommend leaving it as is for some unique charm only the passage of time can craft. Crystal, dial, hands and cabochon are pristine. Caseback hallmarks and engravings deep and crisp. Original Cartier strap is used but with plenty of life remaining. Cartier deployant has some hairlines on the inside. Movement in excellent health and quartz-accurate.
