WHY WE CURATED IT:
Cartier has a thing with panthers going back 111 years to 1913; a recurring source of inspiration originally symbolising grace, power and beauty for strong women of society. It is believed Louis Cartier called Jeanne Toussant (lover and later Cartier creative director) his “petite pantheré”. Pantheres started with one watch, and later became a line of jewellery, before coming back as watches in 1983 (for both women and men), and continues today as both watches and jewellery. The Panthere Ruban (“ribbon”) here is one of only two riffs ever on classic Pantheres. A marked divergence, and less common, retaining only the slinky, cat-like suppleness of a multi-link bracelet. Wears like a jewellery cuff with incredible light play. Setting is via a pushbutton on the caseback, negating the need for a crown that would otherwise interrupt the purity of line on this watch… sacré bleu! This particular example comes with a stunning mother-of-pearl dial, 22 diamonds on the bezel, original Cartier box. One of the lowest prices you will find anywhere!
CONDITION:
8.5/10, with shallow hairlines but not noticeable on the wrist due to the high-polish light play overall. Crystal has microscopic marks visible only under a loupe. MOP dial and hands are clean. Presentation box in good condition except for deteriorating pillow. Movement in excellent health and quartz-accurate.
