WHY WE CURATED IT:
Cartier’s obsession with panthers goes back 112 years to 1913; a recurring source of inspiration originally symbolising grace, power and beauty for strong women of society. It’s believed Louis Cartier called Jeanne Toussant (lover and later Cartier creative director) his “petite pantheré”. Pantherés were initially a watch, later becaming a line of jewellery, before coming back as watches in 1983 (for both women and men), and continues today as both watches and jewellery. The Pantheré Ruban (“ribbon”) here is one of only two riffs ever on classic Pantherés. A marked divergence, and less common, retaining only the slinky, cat-like suppleness of a multi-link bracelet. Wears like a jewellery cuff with incredible light play. Setting is via a pushbutton on the caseback, negating the need for a crown that would interrupt the purity of line on this watch… sacré bleu! This particular example comes with a stunning mother-of-pearl dial, original Cartier box and booklet, and the very rare original pusher tool for timesetting with its own cabochon!
CONDITION:
9.5/10, with shallow hairlines, mostly on the bracelet and not noticeable on the wrist due to the high-polish light play overall. Original “Swiss-only” dial, crystal and hands are clean. Presentation box, booklet, booklet sleeve and pusher tool in good condition. Movement in excellent health and quartz-accurate.
