Credor Integrated Bracelet Steel & Gold Ref. 7771-6050 (circa 1987)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
Seiko's luxury arm Credor debuted in 1974 as “Seiko Crêt d'Or" (French for "Golden Crest”). It was part of Seiko’s ongoing push to beat the Swiss. From toppling Swiss brands at chronometry trials in the late 60s (and subsequently banned from competing), Seiko sought to rival them in craft and technology with this 70s venture. Rebranded to “Seiko Credor”, and finally just “Credor” by 1980. The 80s was pivotal for Credor, with technical refinements in quartz (such as quartz ultra thin calibers and complications), pushing price tiers with exorbitant jewelry-adjacent timepieces (that still undercut the Swiss), and embracing the entry level luxury with non-precious metals. This watch embodies Credor’s 80s as one of its first steel offerings (although the bezel is still 18K gold) with an ultra thin movement, integrated woven steel bracelet and a stunning frosty textured dial. The result is spectacularly beautiful, capturing both a moment in Japanese watchmaking history and ridiculous value at today’s price. Probably one of the best kept secrets in vintage steals and a hush-hush pursuit of the IYKYK crowd.

CONDITION:
9.5/10 with few signs of use. Dial, dial furniture, hands, crystal, onyx-cabochoned crown all immaculate. Caseback sticker remains, with crisp engravings underneath. Barely any signs of wear on the bracelet. Movement in excellent health and quartz-accurate. And yes, the seconds hand hits all the markers perfectly.
