WHY WE CURATED IT:
At first glance, a Cartier Crash alternative. But really its own thing with its own origin story, cult following and a bit of a cultural phenomenon. First launched in 1990 by Swiss brand Exaequo, it was a nod to the soft melting clocks in Salvador Dali’s paintings. As the iterations progressed, the brand got bolder and printed Dali’s signature on the dial, which was both the company’s downfall and the one move that inadvertently triggered its collectability. Not surprisingly, the estate of Dali sued Exaequo, leading to its closure. The version here is a 2nd Series with said coveted Dali signature, better ergonomics with a curved caseback, and slightly larger for bigger wrists. A super fun, solidly built, discontinued collectible, never to be repeated exactly this way due to legalities. It’s like your personal spot of sunshine especially paired with this tangerine strap—a unique “wearable art” experience and true conversation starter.
