WHY WE CURATED IT: We had a 5097 Octagon two weeks ago which we’ve rescheduled for servicing. At first glance this is the same watch with a black gilt dial, but other than coming from the same desirable line, it’s quite different! Firstly this isn’t a square-octagon, but more a rectangular octagon. It’s narrower, but wears bigger. 17mm strap, not 14. The hands are feuille, not spade. Lugs are a fusion of hooded/crab claw rather than wire. The crown has a cabochon. And in superb condition, with original buckle. An uncommon find indeed. Run, don’t walk!
CONDITION: 9/10, only light signs of use on the case. Lacquered dial is crack-free, gilt printing and hands are flawless, crystal and crown cabochon are pristine. Original Longines buckle is also in excellent condition. Movement is running strong and healthy with a to-spec power reserve, and accuracy within +/-20 secs/day in dial up position. Frankly, we’d be hard pressed to find another one quite like this.
