Longines “Octagon” Ref. 5097 (Circa 1977)
Longines “Octagon” Ref. 5097 (Circa 1977)
WHY WE CURATED IT:
Pulled from our first drop but back with a vengeance after full overhaul, and now with a 6-month calibre warranty. Super popular piece, and we can see why. Gorgeous octagon case and lacquered dial with roman numerals and railroad minutes track both following the case shape. Lovely blued spade hands and small seconds subdial. Strap is narrow at 14mm on fixed wire lugs; a mid-century style uncommon for the 70s. Slim and very dressy. A more geometric version of the even more popular “Longines Sympathie” which trades for over 5x this one for good examples. Get in low on this while you can!
CONDITION:
8.5/10 with visible signs of use. Dial and hands are clean. The crystal has a couple of fine hairlines (barely visible) and there’s a small nick at the 9:30 edge, but nothing we’d lose sleep over as the beauty of the dial is unimpeded. The caseback has some wear but the case serial is still intact. Strap has some scuffing, but the pin buckle is new. Fresh from a movement overhaul with excellent power reserve, excellent movement health and accurate to +/- 20 secs/day in dial up position.
