Omega Seamaster Ref. 14765 (circa 1961)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
We think of Seamasters as dive watches today. But there was a time (1940s) when Seamasters were simply the moniker for water-resistant dress/daily Omegas. The reference we have here is from a transitional period (late 50s to early 60s) when the switch began. This Seamaster represents the ethos of a robust, water-safe casual daily that can double as a dress watch with just a strap change. Equipped with the automatic calibre 552, one of Omega’s finest mid-century self-winding calibres with a combination of accuracy, reliability and beautiful aesthetics. This reference is as minimalist and classic as they come, with an expansive domed silver sunburst dial that isn’t interrupted by a date window, stick markers, pencil hands (with the minute hand curved along the dial profile) and straight lugs. It’s a time capsule of a lost era, where simplicity reigned over showiness. A classic addition to your collection!

CONDITION:
8.5/10, with some hairlines from careful use over the decades. Absolutely crisp, sharp lines and facets throughout, and is possibly never polished. Hands and markers are clean with most of the aging on the seconds hand. The dial has taken on a lovely warm patina and whilst it has some mild aging (a lot less than most examples of this vintage), it adds to the authenticity and charm of a 64-year-old timepiece. Crystal has microscopic marks visible only under a loupe. New aftermarket strap and buckle. Movement in good health with near-spec power reserve, strong amplitude, low beat error and accurate to ±10 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
