Seiko Dolce “Sardonyx Dial” Ref. 6020-5430. (circa 1981)
WHY WE CURATED IT:
A special find for those who’ve discovered the joys of Seiko Dolce, launched at the height of Seiko’s quartz conquest. Loved for their elegance, refinement and myriad shapes, dials and materials. This early example epitomises all that… an ultra-slim, 14k gold-capped, round-rectangle with squared-off corners and a headlining stone dial! We can confirm from researching period Seiko catalogs that the middle panel is the August birth stone Sardonyx, but can’t verify the black panels (despite seeing some claims of Onyx or Sardonyx). Always some mystique with rarer Dolces. Utterly beautiful and essentially 1-of-1 due to the natural material. Uses a high-grade 6020 calibre also used in Credors. The caseback is signed with the more desirable Suwa logo, the factory producing finer pieces such as Grand Seikos. A stunning find in spectacular condition!
CONDITION:
9.5/10, with hardly visible signs of use, mostly on the case sides. The top surfaces of the case is 99% clean save for a few itty hairlines. Crystal has tiny dots, only visible with magnification. Crown, cabochon, dial and hands are absolutely clean. Caseback has shallow hairlines but deep, sharp engravings. Original buckle has visible wear, and the soft handmade ostrich skin strap is in excellent used condition. Movement in excellent health and is quartz-accurate.
