Universal Geneve “Batwing” Ref. 842608 (Circa 1970s)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
Followers will know our soft spot for vintage UG. Once a high-end brand, crushed by the quartz era, but recently acquired by Breitling and on the verge of resurrection. Beyond collector favourites like Polerouters/Tri-Compax are myriad time-only pieces to be discovered at amazing value. Like this “batwing” with its horizontally-biased oval case, broad lugs, faceted sides and taupe dial. We love the clever compressed/elongated printed romans at 12, 3, 6, 9 with similarly shortened/lengthened applied indices to achieve balance against an audaciously shaped backdrop. So seldom-seen, you’ll be assured of never meeting someone else with the same watch anywhere. In great wabi-sabi original condition!

CONDITION:
8.5/10 with visible signs of use, but appears unpolished with crisp edges/transitions between surfaces. Quite the find for vintage lovers who appreciate honest, original condition over artificially refinished shine. Original caseback sticker partially intact. Crystal, dial, markers and hands are clean. New aftermarket strap and buckle. Movement in very good condition with to-spec power reserve, strong amplitude and accurate to ±30 secs/day averaged from 5 timegrapher positions
