WHY WE CURATED IT:
Cartier’s relationship with panthers goes back 111 years to 1913; a recurring source of inspiration originally symbolising grace, power and beauty for strong women of society. It is believed Louis Cartier called Jeanne Toussant (lover and later Cartier creative director) his “petite pantheré”. Pantheres started with one watch, and later became a line of jewellery, before coming back as watches in 1983 (for both women and men), and continues today as both watches and jewellery. The unisex Medium version here is an early-batch classic Panthere watch, with the strength of a square dial and bezel, the grace of rounded edges and corners, and the feline suppleness of a multi-link bracelet. With a lovely off-white grained dial and iridescent blued hands. Two-toned and striking a deft balance between the understatement and versatility of satinized steel, with the luxury and dressiness of polished 18k gold. In great condition and comes with full set box, papers and literature. A full and authentic 80s experience of a historic smash-hit Cartier. Big hair, shoulder pads and neon outfits not included.
CONDITION:
9/10, with minimal signs of use. Immaculate dial, hands, crystal and cabochon. Bracelet has minimal stretch and some hairlines and scuffs consistent with careful wear over the decades. Movement in excellent health, and quartz-accurate.
